Home Presentation- Matt Shemwell

Yael,

I thought her opening picture gave a good sense of what home meant to her. Seeing her with her family showed me that obviously her family was very important to her and made her think of home. The picture also showed that her family was on a vacation and that even though she was away from her literal home, she still felt at home with her family. The writing was very descriptive and talked much about feelings evoked by the family and their vacations.

The picture of the baseball glove showed me that Yael obviously enjoys sports of some kind. The only problem is that the glove didn't show any relationship to Yael and her family. It was in reality just a picture of a baseball glove. After reading the paragraph however, I could see that sports played a major role in Yael's life. They were a time when friends and family would all gather together and give her a sense of home.

Next there was a picture of an image that was obviously a picture on a wall at her house. It was a picture of the lake they used to go to. This picture gave me a feeling of peace and tranquility. The paragraph however was a descriptive of things she did on the trip, that was not too exciting to me. I didn't feel like I cared about what they were doing.

Lastly there was a picture of her and her friend. The picture was just the two of them together and laughing. I thought this was the best picture of all. It definitely showed the relationship between the two of them and the feelings evoked. Obviously her friends are important to her.

Elaina,

Elaina's theme was home revolves around family. She showed this in her picture of a wedding where all the family was. She wrote about how important her sister is to her and now there is a new one which will require some adjusting. I thought that the background behind the words was a bit distracting and made it hard to read. However the point of her family being important was well made.

Next was the picture of her and her sister in Israel. The picture itself simply showed that she enjoys being with her sister. Thats all I took from it, I didn't necessarily see everything else that people were seeing in the picture. The dialogue didn't show much about the relationship, except for the part where she met her sister in the airport.

Then there was a picture of a bracelet which simply was a picture of a bracelet. There was no conveyance of any relationship to the idea of home. Then there was a picture of a bathroom. Again all I saw was a picture of a bracelet, no relationship to anything was conveyed. Lastly, there was a picture of a stethoscope, which showed that something to do with doctors was important to her. As the paragraph showed her mother is a pediatrician, which is why that reminds her of home. I didn't get that from the picture however.

Fred,

Fred's first picture was of him laughing. This indicated to me that a sense of humor is important to Fred. In the dialogue he even says, "Home is a funny thing" thus tying the two together. I did like how he gives what his idea of home is but he allows for other ideas as well.

He next gives the picture of a Buddy Rich cd. In reality, thats all the picture was, a picture of a cd. I inferred that drumming is important to him and this was confirmed by the paragraph. His paragraph showed how this cd influenced his life and made him want to be a better drummer.

Next he had a picture of him and his friends. This picture shows me that his friends are important to him. Lastly there was a picture of Fred and his Dad. Obviously the picture showed how much his dad meant to him. The paragraph just confirmed that. He says his dad was a hero to him.
