Fred's Presentation

Elaina Lauer

Elaina’s concept of Home is family, as she named her presentation “Home=Family.” Her spring board for her project was “No matter where I am I feel like I am at home when with my family.” Her cover page contained a picture of her family at her brother’s wedding and in her paragraph she described how she associates home with family. Her cover page also mentioned her close relationship with her sister Reva and the new addition of her new sister in law. In reading the paragraph it was a bit difficult to understand whether Elaina is excited about the idea of having a new sibling added to her family or not. We were then led to a page which described Elaina’s close relationship with her sister. She expressed how hard it was not seeing her sister for four months while being in Israel and how emotional it was being reunited at the airport in November. We then learned even more of this close relationship when we saw a picture of the bracelet Elaina bought for her sister. I truly understood the relationship she was trying to convey as I too have a very close relationship with my sister and had a very hard time being away from her for so long while in Israel. Elaina then showed us the deep meaning behind her connecting bathroom with her sister. What stood out most In the picture were the 2 sinks which indicated that this bathroom was shared with someone. The bathroom was very neat and the door was open which hinted to that it led somewhere. Elaina in that same paragraph brings her brothers into the picture, as she describes how her and her sister sharing a bathroom represents their togetherness and ‘teamwork’ against her brothers. I really felt this relationship she was describing as I share these same experiences in my home. Lastly, Elaina had a picture of a stethascope. When first looking at the picture I assumed Elaina would speak about her wanting to be a doctor. She explained that because her mother is a doctor she was brought up to be a ‘tough cookie’ and to not be a wuss. I felt it may have been better for Elaina to have a picture of the stethascope inside her house to show how her mother being a doctor has really been integrated into her home life.
